I hope to be able to give patients improved vision and give them an experience that will allow them to trust me and in Vision Quest Medical. I am highly skilled and experienced in treating advanced cataracts and severe injuries to the cornea, globe or eyelids. My primary objective as an eye doctor is to help maintain your vision to its best potential, until the end of your days.
I'm Not Just Another Doctor...
I play two roles: I am a doctor, and a friend. My best quality as a practitioner is my ability to listen. Listening to your problems lets me empathize more with your difficulties, which helps me on a daily basis to determine the best course of action. To do this requires active listening - I enjoy that. Another thing that sets me apart from the rest is that I am a perfectionist. Many surgeons can operate and leave someone dependent upon glasses, whereas my special interests involve developing techniques and procedures to minimize their need for glasses.

I don't work with patients. I work with people who happen to be patients. My interactions with you are professional, but also familiar, so that we can make important decisions together. I am someone you can talk to, who will not treat you as just another case.
Striving For Excellence
After I decided to go into the healthcare field, I was introduced to Dr. Herb Mute, an optometrist with the Ohio State University College of Optometry. He helped convince me that optometry was the best choice for me. While in medical school, I realized that helping restore people's vision was the most satisfying specialty in the field of medicine. Since I became an optometrist, my goal has been to treat patients with kindness, respect and eyecare excellence.
Examining Every Option
When people come to me with complex issues, it is my job to find the best solutions for each individual. I specialize in contact lens fitting, which is often the best optical solution to a problem before recommending surgery. Even the same problem may require different solution for different people.
Connecting With My Patients
Clear communication is important when trying to find a solution to a patient's problem that best fits his or her own wants and needs. When talking, I use everyday terms and simple explanations without 'talking down' to you. What patients like most about me is my friendly, easy and outgoing personality.
Leaving No Stone Unturned
The challenge comes when there is a problem with no obvious cause. That's when I become a very thorough detective, finding the root of the problem and the best possible solution. My primary goal is to prevent loss of vision, which is why I continue to keep myself abreast of new methods and technology.
Meeting Challenges In Vision Care
For 30 years, I worked on Indian reservations, where the incidence of diabetes is the highest in the world. It was on these reservations that I developed a special interest in diabetic eye problems. I also had exposure to all kinds of unusual ocular pathology and unique culture within our country. Even after practicing for such a long time, I still get great satisfaction out of helping a patient see better or treating eye disease to the point of resolution.
Treating Every Patient Special
I develop one-on-one relationships with each of my patients by learning about their lifestyles, backgrounds, children, likes and dislikes. I want each patient to be confident in my ability to provide excellent eyecare, I am more than willing to spend the extra time that it takes. That's my commitment to providing patient-first care.
Keeping Your Goals In Mind
I want to help you achieve your vision goals. Your goals become my goals, and every measure will be taken to see that they are reached. Making sure that you are pleased is of utmost importance. I do my best to see that you leave feeling satisfied with the care you received.
More Than Just Eyes
When I examine the patient, I look at the whole patient, not just their eyes. Being able to gain an understanding of their needs and wants gives me a better awareness of how I can best aid their lifestyle. Many times glasses are the best option for vision correction, but often times they are not. I like to know what the patient's wishes are, then work together with them to find a solution that makes them happy.
Getting To Know You
Learning how my patients use their eyes in their everyday lives helps me get to know them better and develop more of a personal relationship with them. This area of health care is often overlooked in today's times, but it is very important to me. Establishing a bond with my patients on this level allows me to build a rapport with them which, more importantly, allows them to develop their trust in me.
Answering All Your Questions
A big part of what I enjoy about working with patients is explaining to and educating them about the exam findings and taking the extra time to make sure that all their questions are answered. I never want any of my patients leaving their exam feeling like they were rushed and didn't get the information they were seeking. I make sure to keep up on all the latest treatments and technology so I always have current information and strategies for patients.
I grew up in Utah and absolutely fell in love with Boise while looking for a practice to join. I am excited to get to know each of you and earn your trust not only as a patient but also as a friend.

There are many lessons in life to live by and one of those important lessons is giving others what you would want done to you in return. I also firmly believe in being honest and transparent in everything I do so that patients know exactly what my thoughts are and feel comfortable throughout their entire eye care experience.

I have worked hard over the years to prepare myself to be the best possible eye physician and surgeon I can to help you in any way possible. However, I equally appreciate the great trust instilled in a physician when a patient has vision difficulties and comes for help. I promise not to take that trust for granted and will always work hard to earn and maintain your confidence in me, as well as with everyone else involved in your care.
